HIPS regrind

Post-industrial HIPS regrind, not household waste

HIPS, high-impact polystyrene, is the plastic of yogurt and dessert cups. When those cups are made, the factory cuts them out of a sheet and keeps the skeleton and the rejected cups as production scrap. That scrap is our raw material.

This scrap never reaches the consumer. We sort it by colour, grind it and pack it in big bags. You get one polymer with the same melt behaviour from one load to the next.

HIPS is the material we know best. It is the core of our business.

Multicolour HIPS regrind

Mixed colours from cup production. The most economical grade, for dark or black products and for compounding.

HIPS regrind sorted into a blue and white colour lot

Blue and white HIPS regrind

Sorted before grinding into a blue and white lot. Lighter and more even in colour, so it suits coloured products.

Coloured mouldings, sheet

Applications

What recycled HIPS regrind is used for

Recycled polystyrene runs on standard machines. It can be mixed with virgin HIPS or used alone for non-food products.

Replacing part of the virgin resin with recycled plastic can lower material costs.

  • Injection moulding

Hangers, flower pots, toys, household items and appliance housings.

  • Sheet and thermoforming

Extruded sheet, trays and cups for non-food use.

  • Profile extrusion

Picture frame mouldings, skirting and decorative profiles.

  • Compounding

Blended with virgin polystyrene or made into black and grey compounds.

Process

How we turn cup production scrap into HIPS regrind

  1. Collection at the factory

Skeletons and rejected cups are collected as production scrap.

  2. Sorting by colour

Lots are separated into multicolour or blue and white before grinding.

  3. Grinding

The scrap is ground to the agreed size range.

  4. Check and packing

The material is sorted and checked, then packed in closed big bags.
